The 189,000-acre Cloud Peak Wilderness
is located in the Big Horn National Forest in Wyoming amidst the magnificent
Bighorn Mountains range. Near the center of this 300 square mile wilderness
is Cloud Peak itself. It is the highest peak in the Bighorn Mountains
at 13,175 feet high.
The Cloud Peak wilderness provides visitors with some of the most impressive
and beautiful scenery of any stretch of Wyoming mountains. Here there
are thick pine forests, boulder fields, and big open parks surrounded
by towering, rugged peaks.
The Cloud Peak Wilderness has numerous loop trails to hike, with some
trail combinations resulting in treks that can take a week or more.
The best time to travel to the Cloud Peak Wilderness is from July to
September. Visitors should take note that registration with the Wyoming
Parks Service is mandatory whenever entering the wilderness. Campfires
are not permitted within 300 feet of lakes, streams and trails. Camping
within 100 feet of any body of water is prohibited. Motorized vehicles
