Listed on the National Register, Wyoming Territorial Prison was in 1872 and restored in 1989. Stops along the tour include: furnished cells, the prisoners' dining area, guard's quarters, infirmary, women's quarters, laundry room, warden's office, and various exhibit galleries.
Plans are underway to restore the Broom Factory building in which most of the prison labor was done, including making brooms, furniture, shoes, cigars, taxidermy and jewelry.
Homestead cabins were romanticized by Hollywood, yet life in these houses was oftentimes stark and full of daily drudgery. Homestead exhibit pays tribute to the pioneers through a display of historic buildings.
The Boxcar and Warden's House are two historic buildings used during the prison days. Efforts are underway to renovate both structures so they can be furnished and open to the public.
Visitors can stop by the Happy Jack Gift Shop for a fine selection of memorabilia. Large groups and RVs are welcome. |
