Just grazing the northern peak of Wisconsin, The former 60-mile backpacking trail is now linking with several others to span New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and North Dakota. It is poised to become the longest continuous hiking trail in the United States. The portion of the trail that moves through Wisconsin may be short, but it is not lacking in natural beauty. Initially, the plan was to run the path alongside the Saint Croix River, but instead, it will stay to the north, most likely passing through Pattison Falls, the largest example of falling water in the state. Backpackers are rightfully anxious for the completion of this ambitious project.
