Kickapoo Indian Cavern in Wisconsin was a shelter for Native Americans for hundreds of years. The Kickapoo are a tribe that originally comes from of Algonquian Indian stock, closely related to the Sauk and Foxes. The word Kickapoo is an Algoquin word meaning "moving about", so it is inferred that the Kickapoo are "roamers". The adjacent Native American Museum tells much about the Kickapoo Indian Cavern area’s long history.

The earliest written records of the Kickapoo Indian Cavern date from the early 1800's, via reports of prospecting lead miners. Today the Kickapoo Indian Cavern is a popular educational Wisconsin attraction.
