West Virginia’s rugged Allegheny Mountains are emblematic of the
state’s raw natural beauty. The state is well known for its fantastic
whitewater rafting, particularly in the New River Gorge National River.
Hiking and biking in West Virginia’s canyons are also favorite
activities. Camping and backpacking in Monongahela National Forest is
excellent and there are hundreds of miles of trails to enjoy. West Virginia
is not known for its cities, but places like Harpers Ferry are wonderful
places to learn about the state’s rich history, especially in
regards to the American Civil War.
