 Monongahela National Forest has over 900,000 acres and offers a variety of freshwater fishing experiences. The forest contains 600 miles of cold-water streams, which provide habitat for Rainbow, golden rainbow, brown and brook trout stocked by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Streams such as the South Branch of the Potomac and the Greenbrier Rivers provided some of the best smallmouth bass waters in the state.
Monongahela National Forest offers great West Virginia fishing opportunities for the angler who enjoys variety. Bass, bluegill, catfish and trout are all present in the park’s 216 acres of impoundment. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources trophy fish citation program offers something to shoot for to the more competitive angler. The National Park fishing in Monongahela Forest offers relaxing and challenging fishing (lake and stream) that is sure to please any angler.
