Originally an age-old, groundbreaking town for the Pacific Northwest, Walla Walla has sort of leveled out. After starting the first banks, colleges and real communities in the area, Walla Walla has stayed small, leapfrogged by nearby Seattle and Olympia. But Walla Walla remains a proud little community. Oddly named and well poised for a good bit of Washington cultural amenities, it certainly fills a modest but important role.

Rich with natural attractions and wineries, this is a perfect town for a low-key vacation. The Snake River offers watershed activities and the series of parks attract outdoor sports enthusiasts from all over regardless of season.
