The Natural Tunnel
Natural Tunnel State Park in Virginia takes its name from the 100-foot high, 850-foot long stone tunnel formed by the erosive action of centuries of water flow. Visitors can reach the tunnel’s mouth either by a chairlift or a scenic hiking trail. Visitor are not permitted to enter the tunnel, as both a stream and railroad run through it, but it remains one of the more fascinating natural wonders in all of the Virginia State Parks system.

There are many Virginia hiking trails to enjoy in Natural Tunnel State Park. Other popular activities include picnicking, swimming in the swimming pool and enjoying the campgrounds, which offers 23 beautiful Virginia campsites and 18 R.V. sites with full electrical and water hookups. The Visitor Center was opened in 1985, and houses a gift shop and an information/education center that focuses on local geology and the history of the railroad.
