James River State Park is relatively new among Virginia State Parks. Visitors can excellent Virginia fishing, hiking, hunting and picnicking. Many visitors choose to launch a canoe into the James River and enjoy some relaxing boating. The park also features 22 primitive Virginia campsites by the James River and another 7 by Branch Pond. Anglers visiting James River State Park are sure to appreciate this more primitive (and less crowded) setting, as do those who like to canoe or engage in other river-based activities.

James River State Park offers over 20 miles of multiple use trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The park boasts 3 fishing ponds, 3 restrooms, 6 picnic shelters and a convenient concrete boat ramp.

Family activities at James River State Park include scenic canoe floats down the James River (from May through September), wagon rides, campfire programs and much, much more.
