A bridge across the New River
Virginia’s New River flows through ruggedly beautiful mountain scenery composed of craggy rock cliffs and plunging gorges. As such, the New River provides plenty of opportunities for Virginia whitewater rafting on a number of excellent Class II and Class III rapids. The motorboat and canoe crowd will be pleased to know there’s plenty of flat water to enjoy as well.

The Virginia fishing is not to be missed in the New River. It is easily one of the best fishing rivers in the state, and supports populations of an astounding number of game species. Anglers casting in the New River have a chance at catching any of the following fish: smallmouth bass, spotted bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, striped bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, muskellunge, walleye, black crappie, channel catfish, flathead catfish, yellow perch, redbreast sunfish, and bluegill.
