Chances are the first thing you’ll notice in Roanoke Virginia is the 88-foot illuminated star-shaped sign shining down on the city from a hilltop near the Blueridge Parkway. It towers over 1,000 feet above the city and is visible from 60-miles by air. If you head up to that star you can get some fantastic views of Roanoke, a pleasant city with much to offer its guests.

The Center in the Square is the hub of the downtown. It’s and action packed little square. In the center one can find a theater and a planetarium, as well as science, local history and folk art museums.

There are nearly 70 parks and recreation areas to enjoy in Roanoke Virginia. There’s outdoor adventure to experience at Carvin’s Cove Natural Reserve. This 12,700-acre area is only 8 miles from downtown Roanoke, and features hiking and riding trails and an 800-acre lake for fishing and boating. The excellent Roanoke Skate Park is open for business, just waiting for its cubes to be gleamed. Virginia’s Explore Park depicts local living history spanning 3 centuries. Campers in Roanoke Mountain Campgrounds can choose from 74 different sites, all of which are expertly maintained by the NPS.
