Skyline Caverns in Virginia are home to the rare and beautiful anthodites the orchids of the mineral kingdom. They resemble delicate white spikes that spread in all directions from a spot on the cave ceiling, and the grow only 3mm in 100 years. The anthodites are protected by state law (and strong wire fencing).
Skyline Caverns has 3 underground streams, one of which plunges over 30 feet to create Rainbow Falls. Another cave river is stocked with trout as an experiment in adaptation; the scientific value of this experiment is questionable since the fish are predictably vitamin-D deficient and must be fed pork to compensate, a food source they are unlikely to find on their own, so this is really a sort of additional Virginia attraction for the cave visitors.
