Information on Magic Mountain:
Magic Mountain in Londonderry is a true renaissance of the old-fashioned Vermont mountain area experience. Many skiers and riders `in the know' consider Magic to be one of southern Vermont's last unspoiled winter destinations. The area has been making improvements every year since reopening in 1997. Don't be fooled though, Magic is by no means the new kid on the block. The mountain was originally developed in 1960 by Swiss instructor and film producer Hans Thorner, whose intent was to capture the feel of a Swiss alpine village in Vermont. Fortunately, the area still maintains that karma, which for most visitors, is a refreshing change from the scene of the more crowded and expensive mega-resorts. Mr. Thorner chose the site after conducting an extensive survey of possible mountains in central and southern Vermont and it's easy to see why as you make your approach from route 11. Its steeps, trees and cliffs on the upper half seem to daunt even the most skilled on the snow. Due to it's foreclosure in 1989 Magic has fallen off most people's radar and for those of whom it has not; the mountain has become the `Best kept secret in Vermont.' The ski and snowboard area offers some of the most challenging terrain in the East and serves up tons of specials and prices that simply can not be beat. Although the area is renowned for its expert terrain, beginner and intermediate skiers/riders need not be afraid; there are plenty of runs for you that are maintained with meticulous grooming and snowmaking. The area prides itself on its learning and development programs for all levels. Furthermore, the Ala Kazaam Tubing Park is enjoyed by young and old alike and operates under the lights on Saturday and holiday nights until 8:00 PM. Magic offers the convenience of one central base lodge that makes it easy for groups and families to meet if they chose to go separate ways for a few turns. Magic Mountain will nourish the minds, souls and bodies of skiers and snowboarders allowing the individual to continue to expand their skill set and have FUN, no matter if they are out on the mountain for the first day or their thousandth.
