Escalante River

Utah Home | Utah Sitemap
The Escalante was the last major river to be mapped and named by early settlers of the American west. This means that the river and the area surrounding are supremely remote and difficult to traverse. Most areas lack distinctive paths and may prove strenuous, but when you stumble upon Escalante, you’ll know it.

Providing some of the strangest rock formations and canyon walls in Utah, the Escalante makes for an awestruck trip. A float down the river will show visitors just how remote Utah wildlife can be. Wildlife sprawls all along the banks and cliffs and side canyons as the river twists through the earth. If you hike around the tributary, be ready to share the land with black bears, mountain lions and bobcats.
