The snow-capped La Sal Mountains.
The La Sal Mountains in Utah tower majestically over the red rock canyon country of southeastern part of the state, about 15 miles east of Moab. These gorgeous Utah mountains are most easily accessed via the La Sal Mountain Loop Road south of Moab.

The La Sals are Utah’s 2nd highest mountain range, with 6 peaks above 12,000 feet. At over 12,720 feet Mount Peale is the tallest. They run 15 miles north to south and 6 miles across. The La Sal Mountains are blanketed by a thick forest of aspen and fir, and hold many secluded mountain lakes, making these Utah mountains a kind of oasis in the harsh Utah desert.

The La Sal Mountains feature many trails for visitors to enjoy. Activities like hiking, biking and horseback riding are favorite pastimes from late spring to mid-fall. The trails are used for cross-country skiing and snowmobile riding in the winter. The La Sal Mountain Scenic Route allows visitors to see the region’s beauty from the comfort of their vehicle.
