Utah’s Bear Lake is a 20-mile long
by 8-mile wide lake located on the Utah/Idaho border in the upper northeast
corner of the state. This large, natural lake stand out from other Utah
lakes because of its striking turquoise waters, the result of suspended
Limestone particles. Bear Lake is flanked by low, forested mountains
to its east and west, marshland to its north and plains dotted with
copses of cottonwoods to its south.
Boaters, skiers and sailors love Bear Lake for its expansive size, and
there is good Utah fishing there as well. Bear Lake has a large marina
with plenty of rentals and outfitters that can provide equipment with
which to enjoy the lake.
There are 4 species of fish in Bear Lake that cannot be found anywhere
else in the world. They are the Bonneville Cisco, Bonneville Whitefish,
Bear Lake Whitefish, and Bear Lake Sculpin. Other fish anglers might
catch in Bear Lake include the yellow perch, Utah sucker, Utah chub,
carp, green sunfish, speckled dace, and cutthroat trout.
