Much like many Utah towns, it is very easy to get distracted
by things around St. George than the moderate little town itself. St.
George has the standards of a city, restaurants, art, a small state
college, but this is a district that truly appreciates their geographic
location.
Almost all the noteworthy attractions here are centered on either nature
or history, prehistoric and early American. Since St. George is located
in the southern portion of the state, its climate is generally much
warmer than that of Salt Lake City, making hiking, biking, rock climbing
and general exploration year round points of interest. Brigham Young’s
home, finished in 1871 and since thoroughly restored, offers glimpses
into the region’s earliest American settlers. Portions of old
ghost towns are an interesting attraction, positioned on the outskirts
of town.
The Santa Clara River is very close by offering many natural attractions
and trails. St. George is a good little slice of life in Utah, and a
nice escape from the frigid northern winters.
