Texas is an enormous state with a several climate zones. The eastern 3rd of Texas has a humid subtropical climate, with particularly warm summers. The middle 3rd of Texas has a sub-humid subtropical climate; its summers are hot and its winters are dry. From the mid-Rio Grande Valley to the Pecos Valley the climate is a sub-tropical steppe climate, with semi-arid/arid conditions. The sub-tropical arid climate in the basin and plateau region of the Trans-Pecos features heavy summertime precipitation. In the higher elevations of the Guadalupe, Davis and Chisos Mountains a typical mountain climate is evident.
