A shady grove at Sam Rayburn Lake.
East Texas’ Sam Rayburn Lake is one of the state’s most popular fishing and boating lakes. It is located halfway between Beaumont and Longview, approximately 70 miles from each city. At nearly 80 miles long with 600 miles of shoreline, Sam Rayburn Lake is the largest reservoir contained entirely within the state of Texas. The only larger lake in Texas than Sam Rayburn is Toledo Bend Lake along the Louisiana border.

There are numerous activities to enjoy at Sam Rayburn Lake, including waterskiing, wakeboarding, swimming, bird watching, hiking and 1st rate Texas fishing (Texas Parks and Wildlife rates the fishing here excellent for bass, bluegill, redear, crappie and catfish). Sam Rayburn also provides many areas in which to have a picnic, launch a boat, or go camping. Visitors looking for nearby lodging have their choice of cabin rentals, lake-house rentals, condo rentals, bed and breakfast inns, motels and RV parks.
