Spring supercell thunderstorms sometimes bring tornadoes to the Houston metro area.

Winters in Houston are chilly yet temperate. Houston experiences an average of 18 days per year at 32 degrees F or lower. Snowfall is uncommon, and typically snow does not accumulate when it falls. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Houston was 5 degrees F on January 23, 1940.
