East Beach on Galveston Island is the biggest
beach in Texas. East Beach is called Houston's Playground
because it's located les than an hour south of, you guessed it,
Houston, the 4th largest city in America. East Beach is both famous
and infamous for its raucous beach parties, outdoor concerts featuring
headlining acts, and special events. These range in innocence
from live music and sandcastle building competitions to bikini contests
and the beer-centric Gay Splash Day, Drinking is a crime on most Texas
beaches, but it's perfectly legal, even encouraged, on East Beach.
East Beach features a colorful pavilion with many attractions available
on the weekends in the spring and summer. East Beach facilities include
restrooms, showers, food, video games, gift shops and a happening patio
beach bar and band scene that heats up on weekend afternoons from May
thru August.
There are a few rules even in this hedonistic paradise. Camping, class
containers, open fires, pets without leashes and 4-wheelers are not
permitted on East Beach. |
