Old Hickory Lake is a man-made lake in north central Tennessee located about 25 miles upstream from the City of Nashville. The lock, dam, powerhouse and lake are all operated and supervised by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' personnel under the direction of the District Engineer at Nashville.
The lake extends over 97 miles upstream to Cordell Hull Lock and Dam near Carthage, Tennessee. The dam and lake are named after President Andrew Jackson, "Old Hickory" himself, who lived nearby at The Hermitage.
The Old Hickory Lake reservoir contains some 22,500 surface acres of water at an elevation of 445 feet above sea level. The Public facilities include 9 marinas, 3 Corps-operated campgrounds and 41 boat access sites, as well as the attractive Old Hickory Lake Arboretum.
