Nashville is the undisputed home of America’s Country
Music Industry and the site of the legendary Grand Ole Opry House, the
venue for Country Music. But Nashville is also home to great American
music of every genre, from blues to rock, and is a city with a rich
history and culture. Nashville is a great place to visit, and you may
just want to live there.
The Tennessee State Museum traces the city’s history, warts and
all, from native American times through the Civil War (and subsequent
birth of the KKK in Nashville) up to today. History Buffs will also
enjoy a tour of 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson’s stately mansion
The Hermitage. The Cowan Collection of Paintings offers an excellent
selection of exhibits for art lovers. The Country Music Hall of Fame
& Museum has lots of top-notch exhibits of Country Music greats
like Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash, and for a little extra guests can
visit RCA’s Studio B, where over 1,000 hits have been recorded.
Outdoor adventures await visitors in one of Nashville’s many parks.
Shelby Park not only has hiking and horseback riding trails, but also
features a 27-hole golf course. Radnor State Park’s lake provides
guests with opportunities for swimming, boating and fishing. Campers
in Nashville can find a spot at Opryland KOA Kampground’s tent
and RV sites as well as every conceivable camping convenience.
Families will have a blast in Nashville Tennessee. Valley Amusement
Park’s many rides and games are fun for all ages. Art Quest at
the Frist Center for the Visual Arts is an interactive program that
gets kids excited about art. The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere has some
great exotic animal exhibits as well as an enormous petting zoo and
some famous Tennessee Walking Horses.
If you’ve chosen Nashville as your vacation destination, chances
are you want to hear some live country/western, pop, bluegrass, and
etc. There’s no place better. The Grand Ole Opry is a must-see,
but its tours, live shows and free museum draw thousands, so be prepared
for crowds. Tootsie’s Wild Orchid Saloon is another great music
spot where up-&-comers rub shoulders with Big-Name Stars. The famous
Bluebird Café may just be a little joint in a strip-mall, but
it’s where dozens of stars like Bonnie Raitt and Garth Brooks
cut their teeth. For an alternative to country visitors can rock out
at the End, or catch the Nashville Symphony Orchestra at the Tennessee
Performing Arts Center.
Sports fans visiting Nashville Tennessee may want to see the NFL’s
Tennessee Titans at the Coliseum, or enjoy the Athletics Programs of
Vanderbilt University or the University of Tennessee.
One of Nashville’s nicknames is “Athens
of the South”. This is due both to its many fine examples of neo-classical
architecture and the scale replica of the Parthenon in Centennial Park,
complete with a 42-ft. golden statue of Athena.
Travel & Leisure Magazine named Nashville
as “America’s Friendliest City”.
