Pickin’ an’ grinnin’ at the Opry
The Grand Ole Opry a weekly Saturday night country music radio program is the oldest continuous radio program in the United States. It has been broadcast on WSM since November 28, 1925. Today it is still broadcasted live on WSM radio in Nashville, Tennessee. Various televised live performances, both in Nashville and on the road, are also a staple of the Opry.

Though the quality of the program has waxed and waned over the decades, the hundreds of musical performing artists who played the Opry defined American country music. Countless stars, superstars and legends have graced its stage, and members of the Grand Ole Opry are identified as the elite of country music. In the past members had to perform on at least 26 shows a year in order to keep their membership active! Some people even speculate that being stripped of his membership was the last straw for Hank Williams, who died soon after.
