Fishing in the Great Smoky MountainsThere’s no doubt that excellent National Park fishing can be had in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There are 3 species of trout to be caught in the park’s many wonderful waters. The Brook or "speckled trout" is the only species native to the Smokies. Some 120 miles of stream have been given special protection status as the last stronghold of the Brook Trout, which has trouble competing with larger trout species. The non-native Brown Trout hardy and adaptable, and attains the largest size of any of the game fish in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They are found at lower elevations and prefer slower waters and areas with good cover. Due to the mass stocking the Rainbow Trout is found in all but a few of the Park’s streams.

There are almost countless restriction, regulations and rules for fishing in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Anglers should have their permits and Tennessee fishing licenses in order, and do thorough research to avoid hefty fines.
