Historic Cherokee Caverns is the most beautiful and historical cavern in Knox County, Tennessee. Though cave has paths and electric light, and it is possible to visit it, Cherokee Caverns is not open as a show cave at the moment, except when it becomes the Haunted Cave. It is also possible to make guided trips throughout the year with the proper reservations.
For the annual Haunted Cave Halloween tour volunteer crew works around the clock to deck out the whole cave with jack-o-lanterns and other spooky stuff. The cave is equipped with stroboscope lights and a lot of artificial fog. Visitors must their way through the cave in almost complete darkness. The Haunted Cave was the brainchild of Mr. Jim Whidby, a member and fellow of the National Speleological Society.
