South Dakota Rivers are rugged and
natural, the kind of rivers that settlers had to ford and explorer
tried to navigate when pushing the frontier of the American west
ever further. From the beautiful Cheyenne
River to the storied Grand River
to the fierce and untamed James River,
South Dakota rivers have never lost the Wild side of the Wild
West.
Cheyenne River:
With nearly 300
miles of breathtaking scenery along its shores, the Cheyenne is
one of South Dakota’s greatest rivers.
Grand
River:
This tributary of the Missouri river is rich in frontier
history.
James
River:
The Native American name for this river is E-ta-zi-po-ka-se
Wapa, and means “unnavigable river”.
Big Sioux River: This river and its
falls give the city of Sioux Falls its name.
