Bethlehem Cave in South Dakota has numerous speleothems. The cave was originally named Crystal Cave, and was so successful as a show cave in the 1920’s and 1930’s that many commercial caves in the United States added a "Crystal" to their name. Some of those caves even use the name today, even though the original cave is now called Bethlehem Cave. The original owners of this South Dakota cave are said to have made a small fortune from their five-cent admission charge and the sale of specimens during fairs and exhibitions until 1910. Nobody thought about the destruction of the cave, which is far less rich in rock formations than it used to be.
Luckily Bethlehem Cave is very large, and contains an enormous amount of speleothems, so it is still very impressive.
