Shadehill Reservoir Beach

Shadehill Reservoir, one of the western South Dakota’s few large lakes, has a dam, built in 1951 by the Bureau of Reclamation, creating more than 5,000 surface acres of water creating fun for everyone. The reservoir and beach is open all the year round.

The Shadehill Unit of the Pick-Sloan Missouri Basin Program, constitues Shadehill Dam and Reservoir on the Grand River in the northwestern part of South Dakota, immediately downstream from the confluence of the North Fork and the South Fork of the Grand River.
   
 
On the shores of the Shadehill Reservoir, the beach offers visitors the chance to enjoy land and water based activities. These include picnic sites, campgrounds, swimming beaches, areas for seasonal use cabins, boating, hiking, and a marina. All recreational areas and facilities, including the fishery, are administered by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks.

You can find three boating ramps, a fish cleaning station, four picnic areas and two picnic shelters. You can different varieties of fishes, such as walleye, catfish, and bass, for fishing.
