South Carolina’s Kings Mountain
State Park is located along the North Carolina/South Carolina
border 14 miles northwest of York on SC Hwy 161. This multifaceted
state park is notable not only for its many opportunities for
outdoor adventures, but for its historical significance. The park
is home to the Living History Farm, a set of 19th century log
and timber structures that gives visitors a glimpse of life on
Kings Mountain in the pioneer days. The nearby Kings Mountain
National Military Park is the site of an important Revolutionary
War battle.
Like many State Parks in South Carolina, Kings Mountain is chockablock
with outdoor activities for guests to enjoy. Campers have their
choice of 119 campsites, 2 of which are group sites (and 1 horse
camp), with numerous picnicking spots throughout the park. Hikers
and riders can explore 16 miles of hiking trail and 17 miles of
horseback trail. Anglers aren’t forgotten at Kings Mountain
State Park; there is a well-stocked lake to fish (though those
who like to do their fishing from a boat must rent one from the
park: no private boats allowed).
