Lake Wylie, named after Dr. W. Gil Wylie,
is located in South Carolina on the the South Carolina/North Carolina
border. An impoundment of the Catabaw River, Lake Wylie reaches from
North Carolina’s Mountain Island Dam south of Mountain Island
Lake south to the Wylie Dam. The lake covers approximately 13,443 surface-acres
and has 325 miles of shoreline. Wylie’s average depth is just
over 20 feet.
The Lake Wylie area’s South Carolina climate is very forgiving,
making lake activities possible most months of the year. Duke Power
(the energy company located in Charlotte, North Carolina that managaes
the Wylie Dam) provides 6 public boat access areas on the lake, so Lake
Wylie is a great place to do a bit of boat, water-skiing and jet-skiing.
Anglers visiting Lake Wyliewill be pleased to know there’s good
South Carolina fishing here; the large population of shad ensure sizable
Largemouth bass are in residence.
