Folly Beach is one of the east coast’s
best surfing beaches, and hosts several surfing contests each year.
There are a number of excellent surfing spots at Folly, but local surfers
agree that the area called the "Washout" gets the best waves.
The campground at James Island County Park is a great place for visitors
to Folly Beach to pitch a tent or park their RV. This 643-acre State
Park offers numerous amenities, including bathhouses and a laundry.
Folly Beach provides anglers with a wide variety of South Carolina fishing
opportunities, such as surf fishing, river fishing, pier fishing and
deep-sea sport fishing. The fishing on and around Folly Beach is great
all year thanks to the Low Country’s mild temperatures. Fish caught
around Folly include spotted sea trout, sheepshead, black drum, Spanish
mackerel, king mackerel, bluefish, whiting, pompano, red drum, flounder,
perch and the fierce and delicious Florida pompano.
