The North Fork of the Yuba River

Yuba River runs through the beautiful Tahoe National Forest, with perfect views of the majestic Sierra Buttes, past the quaint former gold rush towns of Downieville and Sierra City. Every spring the Yuba rushes through its handsome forested canyon, providing paddlers of all skill levels thrills and spills galore. The North Fork of the Yuba River is a considered a classic, thanks to its combination of unimpeded flow, superb rapids and stunning scenery. There are plentiful camping sites along the river and despite its closeness to the Bay Area, the North Fork Yuba manages to remain relatively free of crows.

The most popular stretch of the North Yuba River is probably the Maytag Run, a Class IV raped named after the famous Class V Maytag Rapid, which is one of the most photographed white water rapids in the American west. For the less experienced or adventurous the river also offers fun rafting in smaller boats at some of the lower flows.
