Carson City, the capital of Nevada, is named after the
famous frontier ranger Kit Carson. The shoot-outs, gambling and cathouses
in Carson City gave future generations a colorful past that stands in
contrast to the charming, even genteel, little Sierra.
Nevada city visitors find today. Carson City Nevada is as full of museums
and art galleries in the 21st century as was full of prostitutes and
outlaws in the 19th. Guests can enjoy the town's many of the lighted
parks, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, athletic fields and playgrounds.
Seeing the Champion Speedway is a must for racing fans.
Outdoor adventurers will find plenty of activities to keep them occupied
at nearby Spooner Lake and Washoe Lake State Park. Spooner Lake is recognized
as one of the most diverse ecosystems in the Sierra Nevada. Birdwatchers
that patrol the area may get an occasional glimpse of a bald eagles
or an osprey. Spooner Lake is also the best (and only) catch-and-release
fishery in Nevada.
In addition to in-town attractions, Carson City is only a 35 minute
drive from beautiful Lake Tahoe, the casinos of Reno and the Wild West
flavor of Virginia City.
