Chute Hill Campground is positioned on the hill above
the now defunct Malakoff Diggins hydraulic mining operation and the
peaceful little town of North Bloomfield in the High Sierra. All the
sites in this top-notch campground are located along a winding access
road under soaring ponderosa pines. The sites closest to the edge of
the hill have an excellent view of the Malakoff Diggins mine and North
Bloomfield.
There are a number of enjoyable outdoor adventures available to visitors
of Chute Hill Campgrounds.
The Malakoff Diggins State Historical Park’s Blair Lake is a fine
little fishing and swimming lake. Hikers can enjoy the Rim Trail that
circles the Diggins works, as well as the lovely Diggins Loop Trail.
Hiller Tunnel is a fun, if damp, place to explore, but visitors will
need flashlights, a hat, and non-slip shoes.
Chute Hill Campground has 30 sites for tents or RVs at $10 per site
and 3 rustic cabins at $20 per cabin. The campgrounds contain a water
pump, some flush toilets and steel-drum styled fire-pits. April through
November is the best season in which to go.
