This is one of the more diverse landmasses
in the eastern United States. Encapsulating 454 square miles along
various communities and forests in the river’s watershed,
it is a well-respected and maintained gem.
Historically, Blackstone was a premier catalyst in the Industrial
Revolution. The region has seen rich land turn to farms, which
eventually became factory sites. Currently the site, although
not specifically maintained by the National Parks Commission,
has been transformed into an educational and adventurous experience.
The people dedicated to this task are working to make the river
and watershed even more accessible for nature lovers. There is
still much cleaning up to do after years of abuse. But for now,
you can set up camp at a nearby state park, hike the towpath and
get to know the majestic region in its entire contrasted splendor.
