Located in the northeast portion
of the state, close to the border, Big Pocono is one of the best
opportunities for recreation in the entire mountain chain. It
provides a beautiful side trip from the nearby resort towns of
the Poconos.
Camelback Mountain provides outdoor adventurers several recreation
options, which change with the seasons. Upon reaching its summit
through a series of rugged trails, you are afforded a wonderful
view of gently rolling hills and the surrounding states, on a
clear day. The miles of trails here are well travelled, but retain
their rustic charm.
In the winter, Camelback has some of the best skiing in the region.
Thousands flock here to slink down the smooth thick mounds of
snow offered up by average Pennsylvania winters.
The park is very close to civilization, but it’s hard to
tell when you’re engulfed in a lush Pocono forest. There
are no campgrounds on site, but try nearby Tobyhanna State Park
to extend your stay.
