Spanning four counties and totaling 513,000 acres of land, the Allegheny
National Forest is one of Pennsylvania’s greatest attractions.
This monstrous region provides visitors with all of the possible amenities
one would expect from a National Forest, but lets nature do most of
the development.
There are about six hundred campsites located in various campgrounds
around the Allegheny, offering a variety of overnight options. During
the day, you will not be short of explorative means. In the winter,
cross country skiers and snowmobiles slip along the park’s pathways,
and in the summer, you can bike, hike, swim, go horseback, or mount
an ATV. Regardless of your method of choice, Allegheny’s immaculate
landscapes beg to be explored.
There are also miles of shoreline to take in. Hike along the banks of
the reservoir or spend the day on the beach. This region is known for
its fishing and many anglers can be seen skimming the shores.
