Anglers boating on Prompton Lake
The 290-acre Army Corps of Engineers' project known as Prompton Lake is located in the gorgeous rolling hills of the Poconos Mountains. Prompton Lake is situated approximately a half-mile upstream of the village of Prompton, Pennsylvania, on the West Branch Lackawaxen River, a tributary of the Lackawaxen River. Along with General Edgar Jadwin Dam the Project acts as flood control protection and a Pennsylvania vacation recreational area.

Visitors to Prompton Lake can enjoy numerous outdoor activities, both in the lake and in the surrounding area. Popular activities at Prompton Lake including boating (10 mile per hour speed limit), Pennsylvania fishing, hunting (license required), picnicking, water sports, winter sports (winter only, naturally) and native bird watching and Pennsylvania wildlife observation.

The state of Pennsylvania in general has a moist climate with cold winters and warm, humid summers. The area's average temperatures range around 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
