Trail Description:

This 10.8 kilometer (6.6 mile) trail begins at the Minister Creek Campground and forms a loop through the Minister Creek Undeveloped Area north of SR 666.

Hiking the Minister Creek Trail:

Watch the informational signs. This trail offers challenges to a wide range of skill levels as it climbs to the plateau within the Minister Creek Undeveloped Area. The Minister Creek Trail joins the North Country National Scenic Trail along the most northerly segment. The North Country National Scenic Trail then continues east, and the Minister Creek Trail turns south back towards the campground.

Fishing for small native brookies can be done in Minister Creek. Enjoy the wildlife viewing as you hike. The vegetation found in the Minister Creek Undeveloped Area supports wildlife typically associated with older trees and decaying vegetation. A well-used dispersed recreation campsite called Triple Forks Camp, is located where the two tributaries of Minister Creek join to become one stream. Part of the Minister Creek Trail is located on old railroad grades used in early logging efforts.

Camp overnight as you enjoy the Minister Creek Trail, or make a leisurely day trip through the Minister Creek Undeveloped Area.

The trail currently is marked with off-white diamonds. Forest trails policy prohibits the use of saddle, pack, or draft animals on hiking trails.

The skill level of these hiking trails are more difficult and you should be in good health to enjoy them. We encourage you to hike with at least one other person and to leave your itinerary with friends so they'll know where to look if you don't return on time or need assistance.

These trails are open for winter hiking. Remember to dress in layers appropriate for the weather conditions. Be aware that these trails are used heavily in the late fall and spring by hunters. It is a good idea to wear bright fluorescent colored clothing if hiking during these time periods.

Practice no trace ethics - pack it in, pack it out, and for sanitary disposal of wastes, dig a pit on flat ground at least 6 inches deep and at least 200 feet from water.

The nearest hospital is located north of the trailhead in Warren. The nearest telephone is located in Sheffield.
