Bear creek is a tributary of the Allegheny River, and can be an enjoyable trek, regardless of skill level. You might want to map it out before you put in, but if all the water levels are ok and the river seems to suit your group’s needs, it’s sure to be a surprisingly variant ride.

From the first ramp, the river seems very calm, and it is for the first stretch. As the river picks up speed, you’ll notice several narrow corridors and a lot of sweeping shifts. It can be a bumpy ride, but most consider it challenging as opposed to arduous.

As far as classification goes, the river starts at level one, which is very simple, usually deep and wide. The river then progresses into long stretches of class two rapids and the occasional class three corridor. Class threes usually involve some drops and steep inclines, requiring significant maneuvering skills. At times, it is good to practice in the simpler areas before braving higher-class rapids. Also, be careful as you approach the Allegheny, it can be a powerful, sweeping stream.
