Tranquility in Portland Japanese Garden
The Portland Japanese Garden is a 5.5-acres traditional Japanese garden located within Washington Park in Portland, Oregon. The Japanese Garden was designed and built by Professor Takuma Tono from1963 to 1967, and is widely considered one of the best and most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan.

The Portland Japanese Garden has 5 major sub-gardens for visitors to enjoy. The Strolling Pond Garden is the largest and contains multiple areas, including on in which stones are arranged as the constellation The Big Dipper. The Natural Garden features several ponds, waterfalls and streams. The Sand and Stone Garden features weathered stones rising from rippled sand suggestive of the sea, with tranquil rake patterns are often seen in Zen garden monasteries. In the Flat Garden Raked white sand represents water and vividly contrasts with lawn, moss, evergreens and azaleas.

The Tea Garden has 2 sections each devoted to enhancing the tea ceremony.
