Oregon’s Sea Lion Caves is a huge sea cave used by the Sea Lions; no surprises there. A herd of 200 Northern, or Steller, sea lions live at Sea Lion Caves year round. The rock ledge below the lookout just outside the cave is the sea lions home during the spring and summer months. It is here that they breed and bear their young.
This Oregon cave may be the largest sea cave used as a show cave in the world. It is developed, with and elevator, stairs, paths and viewing platforms. The Sea Lion Caves tour starts at the main building and gift shop, where it progresses up some stairs and an inclined scenic pathway to a lift that carries you down 63m into the amazing multi-hued sea cave with a ceiling almost 38m high.
Visitors should bring binoculars to watch the sea lions and other animals like nesting sea birds and even whales. Flash photography is prohibited in order not to disturb the animals.
