Oklahoma’s Deep Fork River
The Deep Fork Wildlife Refuge can be found along the Deep Fork River in eastern Oklahoma. Established in 1993, these 8,696 acres of regenerating forest bottomlands, drained and natural wetlands, agricultural fields and hardwood forest prairie are home to a variety of plants and animals. The periodic flooding makes the refuge and excellent habitat for waterfowl, such as geese and ducks. The Snowy Egret can be found there, and the White Faced Ibis, but other birds, like the American Bald Eagle, and Greater Road Runner make their home in the refuge as well. Other animals are abundant as well, including deer, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, beavers and coyotes.

The refuge is open to the public. There are hiking and vehicle trails from which wildlife is often observable. Boating, hunting and fishing are all permitted in the Deep Fork Wildlife Refuge if the proper permits are obtained and all rules and procedures are carefully followed.
