The proclaimed “last wilderness
of Ohio,” Hocking Hills is a rare, well-preserved natural
playground. Located about an hour south of Columbus, it remains
an organic haven and a pleasant surprise.
Featuring Old Man’s Cave, a series of tunnels and a few
small waterfalls, Hocking Hills is the perfect spot for a weekend
escape. For sleeping quarters, they have a variety of cottages
and cabins in a variety of price ranges, or you can reserve a
campsite or RV hook-up. Canoeing, rock-climbing, kayaking and
horseback riding are some of the outdoor romps in which you can
partake.
General exploration, though, is the strongest suit of the park.
Vast wildlife areas, winding trails, geological phenomena are
all around you. And a slightly creepy element is thrown in when
you catch wind of some Ohio folklore of ghosts and various hauntings.
These are especially spooky when a dense fog is clouding your
path.
