As you travel south, toward the Ohio River, the Little
Miami River goes through several disparate phases. At its inception,
Miami is a narrow, overall-calm streamlet. Momentum builds with every
successive mile. Once you discover the huge bluffs and boulder-lined
beds further downstream, you will feel the dramatic contrast.
The river also widens severely on the south end as the sprawling native
wildlife matures. Tons of wildflowers are visible from just about anywhere
along the stream (in spring and summer months) and wild mammals can
be seen flocking to the river’s banks.
If you want to attempt the entire length, with all its awe and flux,
you can stop off at Clifton Gorge of John Bryan Ohio State Parks. Both
sites have sufficient facilities for canoes and kayaks.
