Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge

Ohio Home | Ohio Sitemap
This controlled natural area does not allow all its grounds to be traversed by travelers. But the accessible areas are well worth a stop.

One of three nearby wildlife refuges, the other two almost completely off limits to visitors, Ottawa is located near the banks of Lake Erie, between Toledo and Cleveland. This site was formerly overgrown with wildlife and remains destination primarily because of the huge bird population. Such birds include egrets, wood ducks, warblers, various shorebirds, bald eagles, owls, and more. The vegetation in spring and summer includes the American Lotus, Pickeral Weed, and Queen Ann’s Lace.

The Refuge is strictly for the birds, there is no camping located onsite, but there is a mass of lodging all along the Lake for those who wish to extend their trip.
