Trail Description:
There are 43 miles of the North Country Trail on the Athens unit of the Wayne National Forest. This National Scenic Trail will extend 3,200 miles, through 7 states, from New York to North Dakota. The trail will link the Appalachian Trail, the Lewis and Clark Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail.
Hiking the
North Country Trail - Athens:
The NCT is in two sections as it crosses the Wayne. The segment on the Athens Ranger District is 43 miles in length. The segment on the Marietta unit is 41 miles. On the Athens District, the NCT is co-located with Ohio's Buckeye Trail. The Buckeye Trail provides the link between the trails on the Athens and Marietta unit. In some places, the trail follows roads. On the Athen's District, off-road vehicles, horses (with the exception of one section), and bicycles are not allowed on the trail.
