Trail Description:
The Monday Creek area of the Wayne National Forest provides some excellent opportunities for riding off-road vehicles (ORVs). A trail system north of Nelsonville provides approximately 70 miles of trails for off-road vehicle, hiking, and mountain bike use. Two other trail systems for off-road vehicles are provided on the Wayne NF north of Ironton, Ohio.
Hiking the
Monday Creek Trail:
Current license, and Ohio all-purpose vehicle (APV) registration/license required. Designated ORV trails are for vehicles 50 inches or less in width. Motorized vehicles are allowed only on designated trails and roads (marked with orange diamonds). Trails are open for use from April 15th through December 15th each year. Seasonal trail closures are in place to prevent resource damage and limit maintenance costs. Trail Permits are required for all riders 16 years of age or older.

Camping and Backpacking Opportunities: Camping is also allowed at trailheads however the primary purpose of the trailheads is for parking. Be considerate of others and do not block access to roads, trails, or trailheads. Remember, if you camp at the trailheads, you can build a campfire as long as you have a 10 foot clearance around it and put a ring around it with rocks. Fires must be extinguished before leaving camp. No bon fires are allowed. No standing or green trees may be cut. Check the bulletin boards to ensure no fire bans are in effect.

Trailhead Directions: New Straitsville - on Highway 595, 2 mi. south of New Straitsville. Dorr Run - follow signs off Highway 33, approximately 2 mi. south of intersection of Hwy 595 and Highway 33; two trailheads. Monday Creek Trailhead - on County Road 24 between Carbon Hill and Buchtel. Long Ridge - off Highway 78, north of Buchtel, south of Murray City.
