The Haunted Cave is Ohio's only Halloween attraction located 35m below ground. The “cave” is actually a system of tunnels from an abandoned limestone mine. The Haunted Cave is open every year in the last weeks before Halloween. Appropriately enough, the cave is also home to over 30,000 Brown Bats, making it Ohio's largest bat habitat.
The Lewisburg Historical Society organizes and hosts the Haunted Cave. Everything in the cave is built by local groups, and varies in content from year to year. In 2006 the Northmont Science Olympiad team, Northmont Junior ROTC, Boy Scout troop 246, Northmont INTERACT and the civil air patrol cadets from New Lebanon lent a hand, and the tour featured the work of the mechanical and electronics specialist Jim Witter.
